** Sharpe ? ?
?

**OCDT Sharpe OCDT Sharpe
  • Now a legendary member of the Class of Dec '67
  • Only cadet not to answer his name at Roll call Day 1 - AWOL
  • Did not answer his name at any of over 300 roll calls
  • Even failed to answer his name before we marched on to Graduation Parade
  • His meals went uneaten
  • Legend has it his "chook" from Exercise Revenge is still roaming the Dandenongs
  • No one has seen him, no one knows what he looks like, or whether he is married or single. No one knows from whence he came, whether he had brothers or sisters, girlfirend or mates. No one has seen him. He is the Unknown Cadet without a tomb.
  • Maybe he was always with us, in a blank file - who really knows?
  • Maybe he graduated and is still serving with the Australian Army INtelligence Corps
  • Wherever he is, he is part of our Class.
  • His name was read out the same number of times as the rest of us.
  • He is a legend.
  • Maybe he is with us at every reunion or Class gathering; we will always set a place for him.
  • In the mysterious way, like electing Popes, it has been decided:
To perpetuate his memory with the
    OCDT SHARPE CONSPICUOUS ABSENCE AWARD
  • As of 2003, the Award goes to Barry Sydes. Barry was last heard of a few years ago on a yacht with an all female crewe sailing aimlessly in the South Pacific.
